As a child Charlie Thornton enjoyed drawing. His eventual career as a structural engineer involved drawings and sketches. His love of art, however, was stimulated as an adult when he visited the Clark Art Museum in Williamstown, MA. This museum in the Berkshires has some of the best French and European Impressionist works in the US. He was inspired by the Museum’s collection of Monets and Toulouse-Lautrecs, as well as works by Winslow Homer and Frederic Remington. He also became enamored with the Wyeth family – N. C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, and Jamie Wyeth.
When his daughter Becky was born, his family spent weekends in Stamford, CT. When she took her hour long nap, Charlie started doing 45-minute paintings on canvas. For several years, the family used his paintings for their annual Christmas card. He painted boats, lighthouses, and landscapes. He began to paint more when he moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where lives today.
Becky Thornton has always had a deep love of nature. She picked up photography as a hobby and always looked forward to her weekends and school breaks when she could go find the perfect shot. She specializes in wildlife, landscapes, and seascapes. Some of her most memorable photography-based trips have been to the Galapagos Islands, France, and Alaska. She has also gone on numerous road trips within the Continental US. Her favorite area to photograph remains the Eastern Shore of Maryland due to the abundance of migratory birds, spectacular views, and jaw-dropping sunsets.
